DESCRIPTION
In the early age of Giolitti, when spirit of people was full of expectations, reforms and innovations, the National Association for Italian Municipalities was founded (1901). Thanks to this organization, municipalities gained a larger independence from a centralizing government as well as a much important role in citizen’s life that wasn’t restricted to economic functions. Abolished by fascism, it was re-founded in 1946 to confirm the independence of municipalities and nowadays it represents and defends their interests in front of the Parliament, the Government and Regions; moreover it favors initiatives for civic education and the participation of citizens in public life.
